Clarity measures internal imperfections. Carat refers to its weight. Together these four factors determine a diamond’s quality and price — but they don’t all matter equally. Cut is the most important by far.
Diamond Characteristics
Beyond the 4 C’s, a diamond’s shape, fluorescence, and origin all play a role in how it looks and what it’s worth. Shape affects how large the diamond appears and what settings work best. Fluorescence can make some diamonds glow bluish under UV light — which can be a pro or a con depending on the stone. Lab Grown vs. Natural Diamonds
Lab grown diamonds are chemically, physically, and optically identical to mined diamonds — the only difference is how they were created. They typically cost 50–70% less than natural diamonds of the same quality, making them an increasingly popular choice. Neither is better than the other — it comes down to personal preference and priorities.
How To Buy A Diamond
Knowing what to look for is only half the battle — knowing how to shop is the other half. Always ask for a GIA or AGS certificate, buy eye-clean over paper-perfect, and never prioritize carat weight over cut quality. If you’re buying online, make sure you can see actual photos or video of the stone, not just stock images.
